I was born and raised in Santa Barbara County and was thrilled to return with my husband, Nick, following the birth of our daughter, Maura. I have been so blessed to have had the opportunity to study at some of our nation’s top educational institutions: from all-women’s Wellesley College, to Harvard University, to New York University. These days, I practice law with the local Santa Barbara law firm of Griffith & Thornburgh, after spending much of the last decade as an aid worker across the Middle East and North Africa. I am particularly proud of the year I spent in Afghanistan, working to implement a humanitarian services project in remote villages across the country – an experience that inculcated in me a true sense of gratitude for our incredible Santa Barbara community.
My philosophy on leadership and decision-making is simple: create policy that does the most good for the greatest number of people. I am particularly driven to support legislation that eases the burden on working families in our city. It is a struggle to stay afloat here: from soaring rents, to the enormously burdensome costs of childcare, to simply keeping the lights on and affording groceries. I am committed to doing everything we can to center the conversation on the needs of our local families as we work to address critical local issues.
